Human Stories is a project notebook for photographers — track what you're shooting, what you're observing, and what to shoot next.

Getting started

  1. Tap + on the main screen to create a project (give it a title and, optionally, a description and location/theme).
  2. Open a project and use the Photos tab to add pictures from your library, and attach a short note to any photo.
  3. Use Observations to jot down what you're noticing as the project develops.
  4. Use Next Shots to plan what to shoot next time — check them off once you've captured them.
  5. Use Story to pull it together: a working title, a summary, and a key theme.

Common questions

Does my data sync across devices? No. Human Stories stores everything locally on your device only, with no account and no cloud sync. If you get a new device, your projects won't transfer automatically.

What happens if I delete the app? All of its data is deleted with it — projects, photos, notes, and story drafts. There's no way to recover it afterward, since nothing is backed up anywhere by the app itself.

Does the app edit or filter my photos? No. Human Stories only lets you select photos from your library and attach a note — it doesn't modify the image itself.

Is there a way to export my story? Not in the current version. Exporting your story as text/Markdown is planned for a future update.

What the app accesses

Your photo library. When you choose to add a photo to a project, the app uses Apple's standard photo picker to let you select images from your library. The app only receives the specific photos you choose to add — it does not have general access to your photo library, and nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Text you write. Observations, next-shot plans, project descriptions, and story drafts are typed directly into the app and stored only in the app's local database on your device.
